John Garamendi Wins Convincingly in California's 10th Congressional District
Congratulations to John Garamendi and his campaign team for his hard-fought win in California’s 10th Congressional district. California’s Lieutenant Governor won convincingly despite a late attack by his opponent and national Republicans. The Garamendi campaign focused on reforming health care and creating jobs, and going to Washington to work closely with President Obama to make this happen – and the results provided below indicate that the Democrat’s campaign clearly struck a chord with a solid majority of voters in this district.
Candidate | Votes | Percentage |
John Garamendi (D) | 66,311 | 52.98% |
David Harmer (R) | 53,441 | 42.69% |
Jeremy Cloward (Green) | 2,341 | 1.85% |
Mary C. McIlroy (P&F) | 1,672 | 1.34% |
Jerry Denham (AI) | 1,435 | 1.15% |
As Republicans try to spin the results of this fall’s elections, this race for Congress was a clear sign that voters in a middle class suburban district support President Obama’s agenda of reforming health care, strengthening our economy, and reducing pollution and fighting global warming, and these voters responded favorably to John Garamendi’s campaign theme calling for progressive change.
Tulchin Research provided polling and strategic consulting to the campaign. Our polling accurately predicted the outcome of Garamendi’s double-digit margin and our research guided the campaign’s outreach to voters over the final crucial weeks of the campaign. We were honored to work with John Garamendi, his wife Patti, and the rest of the campaign team, and they all deserve the credit for this great win for Democrats.
This win continues Ben Tulchin’s strong record in Congressional races in California. He previously polled for Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher in the 10th district and served as the pollster and a senior strategist to the successful independent campaign that knocked off former Congressman Richard Pombo in California’s 11th Congressional district.
